IIDA ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF NOTEWORTHY SILVER ANNIVERSARY AWARDS

Association celebrates 25 years with industry honors for Interior Design media and Florence Knoll

CHICAGO, IL — IIDA is proud to announce the recipients of two 25th anniversary honors: Interior Design media, leading resource to the architecture and design industry, will receive the IIDA Silver Founders Award; and the late Florence Knoll, the revolutionary designer and entrepreneur who defined the modern office, will be honored posthumously with the IIDA Silver Legacy Award. These distinctive, one-time awards will be presented during the IIDA Annual Meeting in Chicago on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Venue SIX10.

The IIDA Silver Founders and Silver Legacy awards were exclusively created as part of the Association’s 25th anniversary to recognize individuals and/or organizations that are significant to the founding of IIDA and have continued to support the ongoing strength and vitality of the commercial design industry.

Interior Design’s Cindy Allen, Hon. IIDA, editor in chief and chief design officer of SANDOW, and Adam Sandow, chairman and CEO of SANDOW, will accept the IIDA Silver Founders Award on behalf of the publication.

“As we mark this important milestone for IIDA, we are proud to recognize those who have been and continue to be our partners in advancing our industry and underscoring the value of design,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “We consider Cindy, Adam, and all at Interior Design among our close collaborators as we look to the future of what can and will be accomplished on behalf of the design profession.”

For over 87 years, Interior Design—published by SANDOW—has been a key resource for interior design, architectural, and facility management professionals. Interior Design provides the industry with news and information on innovative new products, groundbreaking projects, in-depth research, and more. Serving as editor in chief for 17 years, Allen leads the editorial team as an industry advocate who champions the giants of design as well as its rising stars.

The IIDA Silver Legacy Award will be presented to Jim Lutz, vice president of sales at KnollStudio, who will accept the award in recognition of the work of Florence Knoll.

Passionate about architecture and design from an early age, Florence Knoll pioneered “total design” across the corporate interiors of America. A designer, architect, and leader, Knoll adapted the Modernist principles of her mentors with those of the American Modern movement. Her research-driven, integrated approach to planning shaped the corporate interior landscape of post-war America, setting a precedent for holistic workplace planning and design. Her ideas about workplace collaboration, open plan spatial dynamics, and blurring the boundary between residential and commercial settings are alive and well today.

“To truly consider the future of our Association and the commercial design industry at large, we must acknowledge and celebrate those who have propelled us forward through their significant contributions to the industry,” said Durst. “Florence Knoll’s impact is immeasurable—her influence will continue to be felt for generations. It is an honor to pay tribute to her lifelong work and legacy.”
