CHICAGO (September 8, 2026) — Design industry veteran, Kim Moran, IIDA, has joined the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) as the new Director of Strategic Sales. With more than 20 years of experience in the commercial interiors industry, Moran has built her career connecting brands, designers, and business leaders through strategic partnerships, business development, events, and innovative industry programs. In this new role, Moran will work with leadership on strategy for IIDA's business development efforts, working closely with industry partners to enhance opportunities that support their business goals while delivering value to IIDA members and the broader design community.

Missouri has become the latest state to pass legislation that grants independent practice rights for qualified interior designers through modernized legislation. Senate Bill 1233 includes language building on the state’s existing Title Act to allow qualified, licensed interior designers to practice independently and sign and seal their own documents. The bill was passed by the Missouri Legislature on May 28, 2026, and signed into law by Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe on July 13, 2026.

CHICAGO (June 29, 2026) — The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the American Library Association (ALA) are pleased to announce the Best of Competition winner of the 2026 ALA/IIDA Library Interior Design Awards, recognizing excellence in library interior design. The 2026 ALA/IIDA Library Interior Design Awards Best of Competition winner is Lake Flato Architects for their design of the Cedar Park Public Library in Cedar Park, Texas.

Interior Design Advocates in Alaska Celebrate Historic Legislation Advancing Health, Safety and Welfare of the Public.

Juneau, Alaska (June 22, 2026) – Alaska has become the 31st state and 33rd U.S. jurisdiction to institute reasonable regulation of the interior design profession. House Bill (HB) 314 was passed by the Legislature on June 4, 2026, and became law on June 19, 2026. HB 314 creates a protected title for qualified interior designers and grants them the authority to stamp interior design plans for nonstructural, nonseismic interior construction projects, reinforcing the essential role of interior designers and helping ensure the health, safety, and welfare of public building occupants.

CHICAGO (June 9, 2026) — The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) proudly announces the winners of the 2026 IIDA Showroom and Booth Design Competition, honored for their originality of design, visual impact, and effective use of materials.
