IIDA ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE 7TH ANNUAL LATIN AMERICA DESIGN AWARDS

CHICAGO, IL — IIDA is honored to announce the winners of 2019 IIDA Latin America Design Awards. This competition was created to recognize, honor, and celebrate outstanding interior design/interior architecture projects that represent the highest level of creativity, originality, and design excellence in the Latin America and Caribbean regions.

“Each year, the Latin America Design Awards present us with outstanding examples of locally inspired, pioneering design projects that successfully reflect the communities and populations they serve,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “This year’s winning projects represent the best of visionary architecture and design in their respective regions.”

Entries were judged by a jury of design professionals, including Patricia Saldaña Natke, FAIA, founding partner, UrbanWorks; Nita Posada, IIDA, director of interior design, Skylab Architecture; and Enrique Vela, IIDA, AIA, associate principal, ROTTET STUDIO.

“The winners in this competition demonstrated an astute sense of placemaking within these projects,” said Posada on behalf of the jury. “We are pleased to be honoring such well-articulated interiors that speak the local languages.”

All entrants were eligible for an additional award, the Narrative Award, which recognizes a project with a compelling statement that described significant challenges or extraordinary circumstances that were overcome in order to deliver the project. The winner of this year’s Narrative Award is Pre-Columbian Gold Museum by Gensler, San José, Costa Rica.

All winners and the Best of Competition winner will be celebrated at an awards presentation and reception at the IDEA Studio at IIDA Headquarters in Chicago on July 25, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. Winning projects will also be published in an issue of Contract magazine, showcased on the IIDA website, and featured on IIDA social media channels to more than 300,000 followers.
