IIDA ANNOUNCES GENSLER AS THE 7TH ANNUAL LATIN AMERICA DESIGN AWARDS BEST OF COMPETITION WINNER

CHICAGO, IL — IIDA is pleased to announce Gensler Costa Rica’s Surf Simply in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, as the Best of Competition winner for the 2019 Latin America Design Awards. This annual competition was created to recognize, honor, and celebrate outstanding interior design/interior architecture projects that represent the highest level of creativity, originality, and design excellence in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“The clean, modern, yet wholly organic design is a true testament to the ethos of Surf Simply and an excellent example of the caliber of projects in this region,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “For their ability to seamlessly fuse nature, locality, and brand voice, we are excited to honor Gensler Costa Rica with the Best of Competition award.”

Entries were judged by a jury of design professionals, including Nita Posada, IIDA, director of interior design, Skylab Architecture; Patricia Saldaña Natke, FAIA, founding partner, UrbanWorks; and Enrique Vela, IIDA, AIA, associate principal, ROTTET STUDIO.

“Through beautiful, open space, biophilic elements, and luxurious, natural materials, the design team achieved a warm and modern aesthetic for the Surf Simply resort—while also paying homage to the organization’s commitment to sustainability,” said Vela on behalf of the jury. “These refined and carefully considered design choices made for a truly unique yet hyper-local environment.”

The Best of Competition winner was announced during an awards presentation and reception at the IIDA Headquarters event venue, the IDEA Studio, in Chicago on Thursday, July 25. Winning projects will be published in the September issue of Contract magazine, highlighted on the IIDA website and to 300,000+ social media followers.
