IIDA TO INDUCT GABRIELLE BULLOCK AS 2018-2019 INTERNATIONAL BOARD PRESIDENT AND WELCOME NEW BOARD MEMBERS AT ANNUAL MEETING
CHICAGO, IL — IIDA proudly announces Gabrielle Bullock, IIDA, FAIA, NOMA, LEED AP, as the 2018-2019 president of the IIDA International Board of Directors. Susana Covarrubias, IIDA, LEED AP, will serve as president-elect. Also elected to the International Board as vice presidents are James Kerrigan, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C; Jon Otis, IIDA; Angie Lee, IIDA, AIA; and Sascha Wagner, FIIDA, AIA, LEED AP. All will be inducted during the IIDA Annual Meeting at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago on June 10, 2018.
“Gabrielle’s leadership, passion, and industry involvement are evident, not only in her work at Perkins + Will but also during her time as IIDA International Board President-elect,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. “The combined leadership of both Gabrielle and Susana is an inspiration; we look forward to the contributions of this term’s International Board.”
For nearly three decades, Gabrielle Bullock, IIDA, FAIA, NOMA, LEED AP, has spent her career as a long-standing advocate for advancing diversity initiatives within architecture and design, focusing on complex and socially significant projects in the United States and worldwide. As an award-winning principal and director of global diversity at Perkins + Will, Bullock has made incredible contributions in her roles at the firm.
Susana Covarrubias, IIDA, LEED AP, is the design principal, studio director, and design director at Gensler, and serves as design leader for the northwest region. For the past two years, Covarrubias has been a vice president on the IIDA International Board of Directors. Her career began in Chile, where she founded her own firm after graduating from Universidad de Chile Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo. With more than 20 years of experience, Covarrubias has built a diverse and award-winning design portfolio that includes workplace, hospitality, retail, residential, and building repositioning.
James Kerrigan, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C, has more than 20 years of experience working internationally in Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States in the commercial, higher education, science, and technology sectors. As a design principal of interiors at Jacobs, Kerrigan leads a talented team of interdisciplinary professionals. He is driven to develop outcomes that deliver design excellence and ensure that the functional goals of a project are realized. He values an inclusive and collaborative process that responds to the unique demands of each client.
Jon Otis, IIDA, is a tenured professor of interior design at Pratt Institute in New York City, and principal and creative director of Object Agency (O|A). Otis has been a professor of interior design at Pratt Institute since 1998 and was named one of Design Intelligence’s Most Admired Educator in 2009. Actively involved in the interior design industry, Otis was guest editor and curator for Phaidon Press Room in 2014. Otis has also lectured at American universities, presented at multiple international industry conferences, and participated as an IIDA design competition juror. Most recently, Otis was named the 2017 IIDA Educator of the Year.
Angie Lee, IIDA, AIA, is principal and design director-interiors at FXCollaborative. She provides strategic vision and oversight for interior environments across a wide range of scales and project types. Lee focuses on corporate, commercial, and residential interiors, and carries a unique multifaceted approach that integrates design, technology, and art in her work. She is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s Bachelor of Architecture program, and is currently on the editorial advisory board of Contract magazine.
Sascha Wagner, FIIDA, AIA, LEED AP, is dedicated to creating meaningful experiences for people, organizations, and communities through the power of design. As president and CEO of Huntsman Architectural Group, his focus lies at the intersection of inspiring design and business performance. He develops strategy, process, and partnerships for the firm’s offices in San Francisco, New York, and Chicago, and has spearheaded significant projects for many of Huntsman’s portfolio clients. He is a constant advocate for the design profession through his involvement in IIDA and other professional organizations.
New members to the International Board will join the current board that includes Edwin Beltran, IIDA, Assoc. AIA, principal, NBBJ; Annie Chu, IIDA, FAIA, NCARB, NCIDQ, founding principal, CHU+GOODING Architects; Jeff Fenwick, Ind. IIDA, president and COO, Tarkett North America; Marlene M.
