CHICAGO — IIDA is proud to honor OMA & Gruen Associates as the Best of Competition winner for the 2022 Interior Design Competition for their project: Audrey Irmas Pavilion of Wilshire Boulevard Temple.

The annual competition celebrates outstanding interior design and interior architecture that encourages new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of interior spaces. The firm was chosen from 12 finalists and six category winners and was announced as the Best of Competition winner at Revel in Design, IIDA’s black-tie event, that kicked off NeoCon on Sunday, June 12.

“We were highly impressed by the distinct design of the Audrey Irmas Pavillion with its series of harmonious and eye-catching spaces,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon, FIIDA. “OMA & Gruen Associates created a venue that’s extraordinary in scale and vision and celebrates the joy of gathering.”

Entries were judged by a jury including the following distinguished design experts including Shimoda Design Group Partner Susan Chang, IIDA, AIA; Interactive Design Architects President Dina Griffin, IIDA, FAIA, NOMA; and Studio Munge Founder and Design Director Alessandro Munge, IIDA.

Located in Los Angeles, the Audrey Irmas Pavilion serves as a multi-purpose event space for both its congregation and the surrounding city. The Pavilion is defined by various gathering spaces stacked one atop another with light-filled openings and exquisitely framed views.

“The designers did an incredible job of honoring the historic sanctuary of Wilshire Boulevard Temple with the adjacent Pavilion,” said Munge on behalf of the jury. “They created a defining community space that stands as a testament to the civic and religious.”

Images of the winning project can be viewed on the IIDA.org and will be published in the June/July issue of Interior Design magazine, the competition’s media partner. For questions, please contact competitions@iida.org.
