CHICAGO—IIDA is pleased to announce the Best of Competition winners for two international design competitions. The 2024 Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards Best of Competition winner is CHIL Interior Design for THE KARL LAGERFELD in Macau, and the 2024 Global Excellence Awards Best of Competition winner is Esrawe + Cadena for Xinú Marsella in Mexico City.

“The winning projects, drawn from the hospitality and retail categories, highlight the versatility of design and the importance of tailoring techniques,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO, Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “Both emphasize the creation of transformative experiences taking the user out of the ordinary.”

The Best of Asia Pacific Awards winners, including the Best of Competition, were chosen by a jury of design professionals including Professor at Kansas State University, Vibhavari Jani, IIDA; Principal at Tom Lee Studio, Tom Lee, AIA; and Workplace Leader and Principal at DLR, Susan Orlandi.

“The spaces transform the Lagerfeld brand into an experience, seamlessly and artfully flowing from one space to another,” said Lee on behalf of the jury. “The consistency and relentless care demonstrated by the design team across the varying types of spaces is impressive and a technical achievement in itself.”

The Global Excellence Award winners, including Best of Competition, were chosen by a jury of design professionals including, Blitz Co-Founder and Architect, Melissa Hanley, IIDA, AIA; Soucie Horner, Ltd.|SH Studio Director, Meg Prendergast; HDR Director of Interiors and Professional Associate, Abby L. Scott, FIIDA.

"The jury found this design to be stunning and thoroughly holistic,” said Scott on behalf of the jury. “Tucked into an urban oasis, the pavilion speaks to form and function while having a simple and dynamic interior.”

The Best of Competition winners were announced and honored at a special celebration on February 15, 2025 at the L’Atelier des Abbessess in Paris. The winning projects can be viewed on IIDA.org’s Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards page and Global Excellence Awards page, respectively.
