Our chapters continue to spread awareness and support the advancement of design excellence, legislation, leadership, and community outreach. See how these chapter events are creating positive change within the industry.

THRIVE Leadership Roundtable, October 21-24, 2023
IIDA Ohio Kentucky Chapter

IIDA Ohio Kentucky chapter continued its successful THRIVE Leadership Roundtable this year with a focus on advocacy. Local firm leaders, principals, designers, and architects gathered for an open discussion on one topic through all five city centers, including Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Louisville. Marci Merola traveled to each location, moderating conversations on the current state of interior design regulation, advocating for NCIDQ certification, how interior design and architecture are integrated within firms, and how interior design legislation is good for business overall.

IIDA RMC | RockCon, September 28, 2023
IIDA Rocky Mountain Chapter

IIDA Rocky Mountain members, educators, sales representatives, and more attended the IIDA RockCon event in Denver. Marci Merola presented the keynote session, titled “Advocacy in Focus,” where she discussed recent landmark changes for interior design regulation, the formation of the Consortium for Interior Design, and moderated a conversation on how pursuing legislation in Colorado could result in growth for both careers and the profession at large. After the session, Advocacy “stations” were positioned through the trade show floor, allowing all attendees to learn more about current legislation in Colorado and nationally.

Influencers in Design, October 24-25, 2023
IIDA Michigan Chapter

IIDA Michigan liked IIDA Ohio Kentucky’s “THRIVE” concept so much that they adapted it for their state. The “Influencers in Design” event brought together the east and west sides of Michigan with identical events held at the Cranbrook Art Academy in Bloomfield Hills, 25 miles north of Detroit, and the historic Marigold Lodge in the Lake Michigan-adjacent town of Holland—the use of which was generously donated by MillerKnoll. Like THRIVE, Influencers in Design brought together practitioners, principals, educators, and other industry members for conversations on the importance of NCIDQ certification, and the future of interior design both nationally, and in Michigan Merola was joined by Matthew Barusch, CIDQ’s director of government affairs and advocacy, moderated these events. Influencers in Design was made possible in part through the IIDA Catalyst Grant.
