The 2023 Season of Collective (D)esign takes a deep dive into the collective consciousness of the design community and society at large. This fourth season in this popular series focuses on exploring many visions of ‘the future,’ and ways we can use new models of design inquiry to further the growth and evolution of our industry. In our almost-post-pandemic era, so much of our lived reality has changed and continues to evolve. IIDA brings together leading thinkers at the intersection of design and industries that inform and collaborate on a new vision for the future, for these important conversations.


The Future: Small and Mighty
This first episode of the year will center small, women-led firms that are shifting design. We explore the motivation behind the formation of these firms and examine how they are changing the landscape of design. What kinds of skills and tools do small firms need to launch a business, grow, and progress?

The Future of Living Equitably
How can design and planning for housing and community development support racial justice and equity? Examining structural changes needed and pathways to growth and progress, this group of leaders will consider how the industry can champion, change, and model new practices that can shift the way our cities and communities develop in the future..

FutureNow: Beyond Futurism 101 (at NeoCon
)
We ask the questions that help shape how we move forward in design and our broader communities. This discussion focuses on what it means to develop and utilize futurist thinking skills that can help improve the ways in which we work, live, and build community through design.

Designing The New Work/Life

With shifting real estate needs, how do we anticipate what the new work environment/s look like? What are the questions firms are asking themselves as it is no longer one-size-fits-all for office space and work environments. Moving beyond the white paper, we dig deep to understand the psychology of work and space.

Learning New

This session focuses on examining new models for learning. Working together to understand and predict the ways that design education can shift society and anticipate what schools might look like in the near future. How can education be a catalyst for diversity and expand the reach of the design community?

Sustainable Futures
What does sustainability really mean now? Gathering important thinkers and doers in the world of climate change, sustainability and environmental equity to discuss issues directly affecting our built and designed environments and spaces, and the future of our lives, our communities, our cities, our planet.

Join us as we dig deeper into the innovation changing our lives, the people leading the charge, the design thinking we all need now, and the issues we are tackling, from equity and justice to environmental awareness and sustainability.
