CHICAGO — IIDA is proud to announce the winners of the 2021 Student Design Competition, sponsored by OFS and Carolina. This annual competition provides emerging professionals with the opportunity to showcase their work and gain exposure in the interior design industry. This year’s competition brief challenged participants to design an imagined renovation of a primary care clinic focusing on preventative health within an existing hospital building.

“Each year, the Student Design Competition celebrates the forward-reaching ideas that we can expect to see from the next generation of design professionals,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “The winning submissions demonstrate advanced design thinking with purposeful elements that match the evolving needs of today’s healthcare facilities.”

Entries were judged by a panel of design professionals: Edwin A. Beltran, FIIDA, Assoc. AIA, principal designer, NBBJ; Amy Mays, IIDA, interior design director, HDR; and Natalie Thomas, national accounts director, healthcare, OFS and Carolina.

“We were pleased to see such ingenuity and skill reflected throughout each student submission this year,” said Beltran on behalf of the jury. “The winners demonstrated emerging leadership in this important field of study, expressing unique design solutions while keeping function and wellness in mind throughout.”
