Alexandra "Sandy" McGill
Lead Designer, BMW Group Designworks
For three decades, Sandy has split her time between the Designworks Los Angeles and Shanghai Studios and the BMW headquarters in Munich. As a color expert, her work has been reflected in the BMW Group brands, including MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, and a breadth of industries from private aviation to healthcare, resulting in unrivaled experience expressing brands through colors, materials, and finishes. Recently she was the US BMW Individual design lead, creating BMW customers’ dream cars through personalization. Outside the BMW Group, notable manufacturers she has worked with include Varian Medical Systems, Mohawk Industries, Pilatus Aircraft and Gulfstream Aerospace.

Elizabeth Lowrey, IIDA, RDI
Principal & Director of Interior Architecture, Elkus Manfredi Architects
Elizabeth Lowrey has been responsible for Elkus Manfredi’s interior architecture studio since the firm’s founding in 1988, and a part of the firm’s leadership since being named a principal in 2002. Her projects range from corporate, hospitality, residential, retail/entertainment, to higher education environments with clients including Walt Disney Imagineering, Publicis Groupe, Boston Consulting Group, New Balance, and Rutgers University. She is widely recognized as a pioneer for a combined approach of workplace strategy and design for office environments to enhance organizational performance and firm culture. Elizabeth received the CoreNet Service Provider Leadership Award based upon the recommendations of her clients, is a frequent speaker at design and architecture forums. She is a member of Auburn University’s Interior Architecture Advisory Council, a board member of Boston’s Real Estate Finance Association and the Design Museum Foundation, a board member of Heading Home, on the foundation board of directors at MassArt and a Vice Chair of the Young Collectors Night for the Park Avenue Armory Show. She holds a Bachelor of Interior Architecture from Auburn University and an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from MassArt.

Sascha Wagner, FIIDA, AIA
President and CEO, Huntsman Architectural Group
Sascha’s project work and articles on the practice of design have won a number of awards and been published in Inc., Interior Design, Metropolis, IIDA Perspectives, Urban Land, and Contract magazine where he serves on the Editorial Advisory Board. Born and raised in Germany, Sascha holds degrees from the University of Toronto and Ringling College of Art & Design. He previously served as a member of IIDA’s Strategic Advisory Committee, as vice-president on IIDA’s International Board of Directors, and as IIDA Northern California Chapter president. An NCIDQ certified Interior Designer and LEED Accredited Professional, Sascha is also a registered architect in California and New York. He is a constant advocate for the design profession through involvement in IIDA and other professional organizations. A consummate mentor, Sascha has focused his career not only on creating impactful spaces, but on helping designers reach their professional potential.

Submissions

All submissions must be completed electronically. No hard copy submissions will be accepted. To enter a project into this competition, you will need to prepare and submit the following:

Written Component
Your firm's contact information including name, address, phone number, and email
Your design project's information including name and location
Project description: a brief project summary (50-word maximum)
Challenge statement: a description of your design challenge (250-word maximum)
Solution statement: a description of specific solutions to project challenges (250-word maximum)
Images

Please submit color images of your completed project, in JPG or JPEG format with a maximum file size of 1MB. You may submit captions to your images, not to exceed 50 words. Take note of the following additional guidelines:

Submit 7-10 color images total - of these images only one (1) exterior image is permitted, and a maximum of three (3) floorplans
No composite images allowed - only one photograph per image upload
Use numbers to name your image files, in order of uploads (01, 02, 03, etc). Please use the following format for floor plans: "floorplan1, floorplan2, floorplan3"
Do not reference or include your design/architectural firm name/logo in the images.
Images may be edited to improve contrast ratio, color balance, and composition through cropping only.
Images may not be edited to add, remove, or alter any aspect or element of the project including its context. Images should represent the project as it exists in the built environment.
Conceptual renderings will not be accepted

Judging

The winning design projects will be selected by a jury of design professionals. Submissions are judged on excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, and function as well as the suitability of the design solution to the project challenge and the successful integration of the elements of design. The jury reserves the right not to select a winner from the entries submitted. A maximum of two (2) winners in each category will be selected. It is at the jurors' discretion to not select a winner in each category. A "Best of Competition" winner will be selected from the category winners.

Prize

2020 winners will be honored at a virtual awards presentation in January 2021. Winners will also be featured on IIDA.org, and featured in the official Winners Brochure. Winners will also receive official digital assets, including competition winner logos for self-promotion, coverage and mention on IIDA’s social media accounts and in an official press release distributed to leading industry outlets and media partners.
