Anna Hernandez founded Luna Textiles in 1994 and served as president and CEO until her passing in November 2016. She was a visionary, establishing Luna's place as a leader in the textiles field early on by winning multiple prestigious industry awards for the company year after year, and rapidly increasing its growth in the past 14 years. Luna received Best of NeoCon recognitions in 2003, 2004, and 2010. In 2014, Hernandez won Interior Design’s prestigious Honoring Industry People (HiP) award for “Industry Champion.”
Prior to founding Luna, Hernandez spent years working in management capacities for furniture and textiles companies. She received her bachelor's degree from Whitman College in 1982 and continued her education at the University of California Los Angeles where she received her Master of Business Administration degree in 1986. Throughout her career, she gave back to the industry, serving as Vice President of Industry Relations for the 2007-2008 IIDA International Board of Directors, was past president of the Association for Contract Textiles, and an advisor to the interior design program at California College of the Arts.
In partnership with IIDA, Anna's family and Luna Textiles have established the Anna Hernandez/Luna Textiles Award to lift up women entrepreneurs across the commercial interior design industry. This award recognizes women business owners who specialize in interior or product design, and are somewhat established firms or businesses that are growing but may need a little extra boost to take themselves to the next level. This award will be presented annually by the IIDA Foundation at the IIDA annual meeting. You may make a donation in honor of Anna, or find more information about the fund here.
