This is an amazing moment to be a part of IIDA: in 2022, we reached out to membership with programming designed to celebrate accomplishments, create community, and help designers and our industry start shaping what’s next. We expanded our DEI initiatives, launching our Equity Council and reaching BIPOC high school students in Miami as well as Chicago via Design Your World. And we increased our focus on sustainability and emerging designers — truly our industry’s next wave. If I’ve come away from this year with any overarching insight, it’s that our community is stronger and more vibrant than ever.
I think you all know that I’m a confirmed optimist, and so reflecting on where we’ve been leads me to thoughts of where we are going: forward and up, into the future of design. Designers literally shape the future, and IIDA is ever-more-intently looking forward, helping our industry see what’s next and create a trajectory for positive impact on the world around us.
To our members, our partners and our friends around the world—thank you for being a part of all that IIDA is, and helping us shape what comes next. I can’t think of anyone I’d rather spend the future with! Warm wishes, and happy holidays!
