    Lauren Rottet

    2024 IIDA ICON Award
    • Lauren Rottet is honored as an industry icon as highly accomplished architect, interior designer, furniture designer, and art curator. She is the Founding Principal and President of Rottet Studio, an international architecture and interior design firm, and is the only woman in history to be elevated to Fellow status by both the International Interior Design Association and the American Institute of Architects. Rottet Studio is consistently ranked among the most globally venerated design firms by a jury of design professionals. Among her colleagues and peers, Rottet is known as an innovator and teacher, devoting significant time to the advancement of the profession of design and architecture.

    • Robert Norwood, FIIDA, interior design practice firm leader at NBBJ, has a diverse background in hospitality, corporate, commercial, healthcare, science has honed his ability to understand unique project needs. The spaces and experiences he and his team creates contribute to the fabric of our culture and communities, and the quality of human performance, encounters, and engagement. His empathetic approach combined with his pursuit of unconventional problem solving makes him an excellent client advocate and admired team leader. His work and passion assures that as an industry, we are sharing our wisdom, learnings, and most successful examples of how to promote design, articulate relevant functional forms and beauty is a vital part of supporting and enhancing the profession and IIDA.

    Kevin Sneed

    • Kevin Sneed, FIIDA, is a senior principal and senior director of architecture at OTJ Architects. With more than 35 years of experience, he has worked in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, first in the base building industry and later in commercial interior design. Part of his responsibility at his firm is to create its practice management and professional development programs. Sneed is an influential leader and advocate establishing programs such as Workplace Mentorship and the Licensure Initiative which helped spark his creation of his firm's scholarship program for Black/African-American designers towards licensure in interior design and architecture. His commitment to advancing interior design is evident in his ongoing service as a member of the Interior Design and Architect Boards for his state and an advisory board member for one of the local university design schools.

    Lisa Marie Tucker

    2024 College of Fellows
    • Lisa Marie Tucker, FIIDA, Ph.D, is a certified interior designer and registered architect with over 20 years of professional experience in sustainability and historic preservation. She holds degrees in architecture and architectural history from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D from the University of Missouri—Columbia in architectural studies. She is the department head of apparel, housing, and resource management and a professor at Virginia Tech teaching upper-level design studios and historic preservation. Dr. Tucker has an extensive research portfolio and has written and published seven books and numerous journal articles on design focusing on sustainability, preservation, and the small house. She has won multiple teaching awards including being listed as one of the "Top 20 Most Admired Design Educators" by DesignIntelligence in 2010, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

    • Abby Scott, FIIDA, interior design principal at HDR is an award-winning interior designer with a unique talent for leading and fostering long-lasting client relationships to create memorable and inspiring environments. She is also the Vice President for IIDA’s 2023-2024 International Board of Directors and served as President of the IIDA Great Plains Chapter in 2013. With over 21 years of experience, Scott has cultivated a deep knowledge of strategic vision programming for diverse spaces ranging from technically complex healthcare environments to innovative global headquarter buildings and culturally iconic libraries and museums. Her creative, hands-on leadership style and enthusiasm create high-performing teams that elevate HDR’s design caliber in the region and beyond. An advocate for design and mentorship, Scott is an active member of professional organizations, including IIDA, AIA, Women in Healthcare (WIH), and Commercial Real Estate Women Network (CREW).

    • As a Principal and Design Director with over 30 years of experience, Stefanie Shunk, FIIDA, is a creative force known for fostering design innovation to propel her clients into the future. Focusing on technology, media, consumer goods, and financial services, she creates dynamic interiors that reflect a company’s core vision and values through close collaboration with her clients and her project teams designing purpose-driven, technology-rich, and hospitality-forward experiences that transform their business and culture. She is dedicated to investing in her team's development and founded Gensler Northeast Region’s Design Leadership Program to grow the next generation of design leadership. She passionately advocates and advances Gensler’s GC3 initiatives toward carbon neutrality and a more sustainable and resilient future.

    • Koreen Pelot, FIIDA, has 18 years of experience as a sales professional in the interior design industry. As an Account Manager with Shaw Contract, she combines her passion for bringing people together with a company that strives to create a better, fairer future for all. She joined IIDA WI as a young designer and has spent her career supporting the organization in multiple board positions throughout the years. She has worked alongside friends and colleagues to grow the chapter, create unique events, and also started a scholarship program that has awarded over $110,000 to students pursuing their design degrees in Wisconsin. Pelot has mentored and assisted the design communityand held some incredible positions throughout her career and in the organization, the title of “mom” is her favorite.

His leadership showcases more than 20 years of experience in next-generation design at the cutting edge of workplace strategies, and his commitment to a high level of conceptual and technical development, combined with a design process that champions client partnership, transforms spaces for his clients across the globe. With a genuine interest in people and a passion for leading teams to personal and professional success, Heiser is a trusted mentor to many. His expertise is regularly sought after by organizations, conferences, and global media outlets, exemplifying his influence in the industry and beyond.

    • Senior Vice President and Interior Design Director, Americas of AECOM Brett Shwery’s body of work is grounded in storytelling and his belief in design as an intersection of possibility, vision, and execution across disciplines and industries. After years working with some of the world’s leading firms, Shwery’s commitment to people-centered design and passion for an integrated approach allow him to lead at AECOM and beyond with creativity and mentorship in mind. In 2018, Shwery received ANEW Foundations’ national Stewardship Champion Award for dedication to social and environmental sustainability in the industry, further exemplifying his commitment globally to the power of design backed by intentionality and innovation.

    • As President of Helix Architecture + Design, Erika Moody’s work prioritizes both form and function in the pursuit of her clients’ business, wellness, and culture goals. After a successful tenure as Principal of an international design firm, Moody formed her own design studio which later merged with Helix. Since then, Moody has played a key role in the firm’s increased revenue year-over-year and its industry recognition for detail-oriented design and client-focused service practices. As a Vice President on the IIDA International Board, the recipient of the 2017 IIDA Mid-America chapter Vision Award, and a member of industry-adjacent boards at multiple universities, Moody’s commitment to excellence extends far beyond her own firm and into the future of the industry on a global scale.

    • Principal and Director of Interior Architecture at Elkus Manfredi Architects, Elizabeth Lowrey, has been responsible for the firm’s interior architecture practice since its founding. Interior Design includes her on a list of “20 Inspiring Women who make up the new face of the design industry.” Boston Magazine once again names her among the 100 Most Influential Bostonians writing, “…as companies reimagine workspaces, there is perhaps no one more sought after. Sophisticated, savvy, and creative, her approach will no doubt shape the look of our city in the future.” Her clients include Walt Disney Imagineering, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Publicis Groupe, New Balance, Citizens Bank, and Harvard University. Lowrey is a guest columnist for Fast Company, Commercial Observer, Work Design Magazine and Banker & Tradesman.

    • Eileen Jones is a Design Principal and the Branded Environments Global Practice Leader at Perkins&Will. For more than 40 years, she has crafted design solutions that capture the hearts and minds of her clients, building emotional bonds with place, and strengthening brand value. Her leadership in creative problem solving, research, and strategic thinking has positioned her and her teams for award-winning solutions and world-wide recognition. Working across all practice areas and around the globe, Jones’s work is diverse and uniquely reflects the character, culture, and brand of each individual client. She is a vocal advocate for design excellence across many design disciplines, a courageous proponent of an interdisciplinary team philosophy, and passionate about the education of future designers.

    • After receiving an architecture-focused education and beginning her design career in Chile, Gensler Studio Director and former IIDA International Board President, Susana Covarrubias, now resides in the U.S. where she leads various projects and programs. With a wide breadth of experience and an eye towards global collaboration, Covarrubias brings her passions for inclusivity and equity to each physical space she designs. Inspired by women throughout her life, Covarrubias offers consultation and assistance to other females in the industry, particularly young women seeking pathways to success. In her many leadership positions at Gensler and a successful tenure as the IIDA International Board President, Covarrubias has proven herself to be a force of innovation in the industry and beyond.

    • Jean Anderson co-leads Gensler's Global Design Synergy Community and is a Design Principal in the New York office. She is focused on design excellence, working across the organization to ensure its designs continue to push the boundaries of impact, innovation, and experience. Anderson is a leading force in Gensler's commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in all its projects by 2030. As co-chair of the Gensler Global Race and Diversity Committee, she is also helping the firm create more opportunities in the design industry for minority communities and underserved youth. Working with recognizable consumer companies, Anderson knows how to balance great design with strategic solutions that help them realize their vision, inspire their culture, and celebrate their brand.

    • Mavis Wiggins has more than 30 years of experience as an interior designer and team leader. During her tenure, she has developed a large and multi-faceted workplace portfolio with an emphasis in financial services. Wiggins believes that understanding nuance is the key to properly caring for each client and draws upon her experience and evolving vision to design successful spaces that create better experiences for those who use them. As managing executive and studio creative director at TPG Architecture, she articulates a client’s unstated goals, ensuring the completed design reflects their unique ideal. In 2018, she was recognized as an honoree at the IIDA Leaders Breakfast in New York.

    • Kay Sargent has more than 35 years of experience and is an award-winning designer who has worked with several Fortune 500 companies to optimize their global real estate portfolios and create innovative work environments based on their unique organizational DNA. As Co-Director of HOK’s workplace team, a practice that supports organizations undertaking multiple projects in various locations, and a member of HOK’s Board of Directors, Sargent is responsible for helping clients redefine how, when, and where their people work. Prior to joining HOK, Sargent served as director of workplace strategies for Lendlease; VP of A&D and workplace strategies for Teknion; and as a principal for interior architects in Washington, D.C. Sargent currently serves on the AVIXA Board of Directors; the National ASID Foundation Research Taskforce, the IWBI Mind Advisory Team, the Advisory Board for WorkDesign Magazine, and was recently appointed to the George Washington University Customer Experience Certificate Program Advisory Council.

    • Ana Pinto-Alexander is principal and director of HKS’ global health practice, ranked among the top five by Modern Healthcare, where she provides leadership as an instrumental member of the firm’s Leadership Council, driving strategic vision and planning. With more than 36 years of experience, Pinto-Alexander’s devotion to evidence-informed design has anchored her belief that holistic healing environments improve the experience for the patients, families, and staff. Pinto-Alexander’s childhood in Colombia and extensive international travel have influenced a unique design perspective based on research and empathy. Pinto Alexander’s interior design firm of 22 employees, Maregatti Interiors, was acquired by HKS in 2011. In 2009, she was recognized as one of the “25 Most Influential People in Healthcare Design” by Healthcare Design magazine and in 2020 she received the HiP Healthcare Award from Interior Design magazine.

    Karen Muraoka

    • Karen Muraoka began her design career in 1982 at Architects Hawaii Ltd. in Honolulu and continued there until she opened her own firm, Karen Muraoka Interior Design, specializing in healthcare design in 2011. She then moved to Japan, working with a large and innovative medical center group, that gave Muraoka the freedom and encouragement to explore new avenues of healthcare design. Now back in Hawaii, Muraoka continues to run her practice, while also participating as a frequent juror at both NeoCon and healthcare design conferences. She has been involved with IIDA since 2001, having grown as a leader, receiving the 2019 Legacy Award from the IIDA Hawaii Pacific Chapter, furthering her a pathway to share her passion with other aspiring designers.

    • As a Design Director at Gensler, Lee is continually finding innovative and inspirational solutions that add value to the spaces she designs. For nearly 30 years, she has worked with a multitude of space types for some of the world’s most influential companies in finance, media, publishing, retail, and commercial development. With an elegant and timeless design approach, Lee provides long-lasting value to each of her clients which include Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, New York Times, Nomura, and the American Kennel Club. She brings a sense of humanity for highly complex and multi-disciplinary organizations and has a passion for collaboration and engagement to deliver memorable design work which has been featured in prominent global publications. Lee has worked as an associate professor at Pratt Institute and continues to mentor young talent, exemplifying her dedication to shaping the next generation of designers.

    • Angie Lee leads an award-winning interiors practice, providing strategic vision and oversight for interior environments across a wide range of scales in both commercial and residential project types. With over 28 years of experience, Lee uses a multifaceted approach that integrates emotional design narrative, technical precision, and artistic intuition in her work. Born in Seoul, Korea, and raised in the Midwest by parents who promoted science and music, Lee continues to meld art and technology in her approach to architecture and interior design. Committed to an inclusive philosophy of design, Angie is a registered architect in New York, and is Vice President, Head of Interior Design at Pembroke.

    • Catherine Heath is a seasoned architect and designer with significant accomplishments in design and workplace strategy in her 30-year career. A prominent leader in the Washington, D.C. real estate community, Heath has been fortunate to work under the direction of outstanding mentors who have influenced her approach to design. She recognizes the importance of mentorship in the development of the next generation of design talent and has established a mentorship program at her own firm, in addition to serving as a mentor to several students. As a practice leader, she has built a studio of 22 talented designers with an impressive portfolio of completed works at HYL Architecture. In just six years, her firm has designed more than 100 projects in 25 cities internationally, and regularly competes with top firms globally.

    Jennifer Graham

    • For more than 30 years, Jennifer Graham’s success has come from her unique approach of incorporating mentorship into project management. As a bold champion for DEI, social purpose, and sustainability, Graham brings these issues to the forefront in her client work and community service as a principal at Perkins+Will, a renowned architecture and design firm. In 2009, she founded LMNOP NYC, Inc., an organization offering networking and affordable continuing education credits to designers. Following LMNOP’s acquisition by the IIDA NY Chapter, Graham became IIDA NY’s vice president of action and 2021 catalyst chair. Native to Barbados, the influence of Graham’s family is evident in everything she does; from fulfilling her father’s own dream of working in architecture to epitomizing the resolve and relentless pursuit of knowledge passed on through her grandmother. Her character and record demonstrate her advocacy and commitment to both the design and global communities.

    Ronnie Belizaire

    • Ronnie Belizaire blends both business acumen and design expertise as corporate real estate manager for Daimler, helping to guide the company’s organizational goals for its various business entities through the strategic positioning of corporate real estate assets in the Americas. Belizaire is an experienced project manager and designer with more than five million square feet of architectural, interiors, and industrial projects managed and delivered during her 15-year career. She is a dedicated IIDA volunteer whose previous service includes IIDA Georgia Chapter President from 2013-2014 and IIDA Foundation Chair from 2017-2019. Professionally, Belizaire has completed projects for numerous clients, including well-known Fortune 500 companies, helping them transform their organizations through the built environment.

    • David Meckley views the designer’s role as universally transformative. Curiosity, paired with a passion for dynamic design and pragmatism for spatial organization, are the driving forces of his career. By striving to discover untapped design opportunities—inventive ways to achieve a client’s business objectives, unique use of materials, improving sustainability, or enhancing wellbeing—Meckley capitalizes on the power of interior spaces to elevate the human experience. A William Bridges Institute Certified Transition Manager, he effectively leads and guides clients through the changes inherent to any design project. His approach to visioning with clients is to identify key project drivers that generate the foundation towards innovative and creative design solutions. Utilizing his more than 35 years of experience, he has led the development of workplace strategies and assisted notable companies including Uber, McKesson, Google, Delta Dental, Kaiser Permanente, and Autodesk in adapting to today’s dynamic business environment.

    • As a Global Interiors Design Principal with Jacobs, James Kerrigan has extensive national and international experience influencing and informing design for high performing workplaces. In his role, he provides solutions focused on placemaking, choice, and experience in an era where work environments are increasingly optional and distributed work is increasing. Fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative approaches amongst distributed teams are his areas of focus. Kerrigan also works with clients and teams to reinvent workplace design to respond to the rapid changes we face as technology and the way people use and engage in space shift profoundly. He and his Jacobs team make the world smarter, more connected, and more sustainable and aim higher to provide solutions using knowledge-driven design, integrating experience and performance data to provide engaging spaces with measurable outcomes.

    Jordan Goldstein

    • An award-winning architect, Jordan Goldstein oversees Gensler’s focus on design innovation and project delivery. Throughout his career, Goldstein has led the design of more than 8 million square feet of commercial projects in the United States and abroad. A sought-after spokesperson on the future of design both domestically and globally, Goldstein has been featured in many prominent design publications. In 2015, the Washington Business Journal named him one of the 25 top innovators in Washington, D.C., and has regularly included him on its list of the 100 most influential leaders in that market. An advocate of helping the next generation of designers prepare for tomorrow, Goldstein has frequently taught a course on design at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a master's degree in architecture and has been the Kea Professor at the University of Maryland, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture.

    Bill Bouchey

    2020
    • Bill Bouchey recently relocated to HOK’s Los Angeles studio from New York and is taking on a bicoastal role to lead clients and team relationships in both cities. He has nearly 30 years of experience as a thought leader in workplace, showroom, and retail environments, with an emphasis on innovation and brand presence. Bouchey guides clients collaboratively in creating a sense of place and a commitment to concept-based design excellence. His design sense is driven by the belief that interior design empowers people and transforms organizations. His work has won numerous honors and earned extensive coverage within design media. He serves on the editorial advisory board of Contract and is a frequent editorial contributor and guest speaker on design. His recent interiors projects in New York include offices for Shiseido, Viacom, WPP, Accenture, Apollo Global Management, and Hogarth-Gramercy Studios.

    Dr. Carol Bentel

    2020
    • Dr. Carol Bentel is a partner at Bentel & Bentel Architects/Planners and Chair of the BFA Interior Design: Built Environments department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Dr. Bentel is a Fulbright Fellow, a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, and a Fellow of the AIA College of Fellows. She was the 2008 Chair of the AIA National Committee on Design and is Vice-Chair of the NYS Preservation League. Dr. Bentel is a Hospitality Design Platinum Circle Honoree, and a three-time recipient of the James Beard Award for restaurant design, also receiving other national awards from AIA, SARA, and IIDA. Her work can be found in Built by Women NYC. Dr. Bentel has served on the faculty of SVA, the New York Institute of Technology, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Georgia Tech, and the New York City College of Technology. She received her Ph.D. in History, Theory and Criticism from the Department of Architecture at MIT. She also co-authored Nourishing the Senses: Restaurant Architecture of Bentel & Bentel.

    • Emily Hatcher, Student IIDA, is completing her degree at Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and minors in Studio Art and Graphic and Industrial Design. Emily grew up loving all things artistic and looks forward to using her passion for creativity in her future endeavors in the design industry. Emily is involved in Auburn University’s interior design community, primarily through her involvement in AU Societies—the student chapter of IIDA and ASID. After being elected as co-president last spring, she facilitated initiatives aimed at enhancing professional development, fostering industry connections, and providing access to design resources.

    Espe Zivkovic

    2023 Student of the Year
    • Espe Zivkovic, Student IIDA, graduates in Spring 2023 as an interior design student from Bellevue College, and member of the IIDA Northern Pacific Chapter. Originally from Colombia, she has a degree in industrial design, and worked as a furniture designer among other creative roles. Upon deciding to change career paths and moving to Seattle, Zivkovic began her interior design studies with the idea of combining industrial and interior design knowledge for a holistic approach. She found her way to IIDA through a local drawing club, and through IIDA, she found her voice and confidence as part of the local student community. She is the 2022-23 Student Council President for the IIDA Puget Sound Campus Center organizing events that help students with networking, finding mentors, internships, and more. Zivkovic placed third place in the 2022 IIDA Student Design Charette at NeoCon and is currently completing an internship at CRTKL.

    • Hailey Fuller, Student IIDA, ASID, recently received a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Auburn University’s CIDA accredited program. She is active in her local IIDA chapter and campus center and served as the Public Relations Officer for an on-campus organization for members of IIDA and ASID. In 2021, she won Best of Students for Corporate/Office Design at the Alabama Chapter IDIES. As a student, she served in various leadership roles on campus including being an ambassador for the College of Human Sciences, a teaching assistant for multiple studio courses, and a CIDA ambassador. Fuller’s passions for sustainable design led her to earn a minor in sustainability studies and become an accredited LEED Green Associate.

    • Jen is a student at the California State University, Long Beach and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture. Alongside her active role in IIDA, where she is fostering her dream of becoming an impactful interior designer, she has also held various leadership positions in the interior design community including as vice president of the Design Student Association, student senator and environmental affairs officer at SD Mesa College, CA and treasurer of her ASID Student Chapter. Additionally, she has worked as an interior design intern at Nevermore Group in Penang, Malaysia and Retail Design Collaborative in Long Beach. Jen is a stickler for sustainability and believes that design should foster a deeper connection between people and space as well as minimizing its overall environmental impact.

    • Tyler is a 2020 graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in interior design and a focus on retail design strategy and sustainability. During his time as a student, Tyler remained active with IIDA, holding the position of co-leader of the IIDA Ohio State Campus Center since 2017. In 2019, he received first place in the IIDA Student Design Charette at NeoCon and has also been involved in a number of additional design competitions, including the Big 10 Student Design Challenge, sponsored by Herman Miller, and the Innovation in Material Product Design, Sponsored by Mohawk Group. Hatton has held positions with BHDP Architecture and L Brands and has been a speaker and presenter at several interior design events and conferences, including the IIDA Chapter Leadership Council.

    • Sara Ables, IIDA, is a Senior Furniture Specialist in the Interiors Studio at Corgan in Dallas, Texas. Sara received a BFA in Interior Design from the University of North Texas. Since 2015, she has served in various volunteer roles with IIDA in the Dallas City Center and Texas Oklahoma Chapter. Sara is Past Director for the IIDA Dallas City Center and President-Elect for the IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter Board through June 2024. She has focused on student and educator initiatives to bring awareness, access, and opportunities to the architecture and interior design industry through her service leadership within Corgan and IIDA and volunteering with organizations like The Hip Hop Architecture Camp and the ACE Mentor Program. She served on IIDA’s inaugural Equity Council in 2021 and is a 2022 ASID Ones to Watch Scholar.

    • Dani Sheley, IIDA is an associate and interior designer with CannonDesign in St. Louis. With over 10 years of experience, her attention to detail provides a foundation for meaningful client relationships and creative solutions. Sheley is a registered interior designer providing innovative and functional spaces that meet clients’ business goals and project objectives. She works closely with project teams to create functional, welcoming, and collaborative interior spaces. Sheley is IIDA Gateway Chapter Immediate Past President through June 2023 and since 2019 has served on the chapter board of directors mentoring students and the next generation of interior designers. Her passion goes beyond creating meaningful spaces to encouraging others to reach their full potential. When not creating spaces and attending A&D events, Dani enjoys attending musicals, hiking, playing board games, and spending time with family, friends, and her Goldendoodle Magnolia.

    • Alexandra Bonner, IIDA, is an associate and healthcare interior designer with FCA in Philadelphia. She received her B.F.A in Interior Design from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her M.S. in Interior Architecture from Jefferson University. She serves as an Adjunct Professor and Thesis Advisor at Drexel University and volunteers in a variety of capacities with A&D industry related organizations throughout the greater Philadelphia region. When not focusing on improving human experience through the built environment, Bonner works to cultivate space for equitable inhabitation through a dedicated yoga practice where she is also a Certified Yoga Instructor.

    • Marivel has worked on a wide range of design projects spanning the realms of workplace, higher education, cultural and performing arts, and healthcare. She is actively involved in IIDA and has served in a variety of leadership positions including as past president and VP of government and regulatory affairs of the IIDA Northland Chapter Board. In her role at HGA, she leads interior projects for workplace, education, cultural and healthcare markets. Her empathetic approach to the design process involves listening first then diving deeper to understand each client’s strengths. She provides space for the most marginalized to voice their perspectives and believes interior design is about designing beautiful and functional spaces—and bringing human dignity and equity to our built environments.

    • The 2020 Member of the Year is Abby Scott, IIDA, senior interior designer and architectural studio leader at HDR. With almost 20 years of experience, Scott has worked on a broad range of projects and has been involved in all aspects of the design process such as programming, design development, finish selection, space planning, and project management. She is actively involved in IIDA and her local design community, serving in a variety of leadership and volunteer positions including as a past president of the IIDA Great Plains Chapter Board, an IIDA chapter advisor, and a member of the local interior design coalition of Nebraska. In her role with HDR, she functions as a lead on design projects and a primary contact for clients, helping them create unique and inspiring environments. Scott has an interior design degree from Iowa State University and is NCIDQ and LEED-certified.

    • Joyce Strait has been a professional member of IIDA for 40 years. Her career as an educator and interior designer spans 30 years, and she is a strong advocate for the interior design industry. Working on her thesis at The Ohio State University, she explored the role of internships in undergraduate curricula through the insights and experiences of interior designers. Serving as an International Board Member, and in leadership roles for the IIDA Ohio Kentucky Chapter, the Columbus City Center, and the IBD Ohio Chapter, as well as served the profession in roles of competition jury member, speaking panels, and conference chairs Strait has also been presented with awards and certificates of appreciation from the chapters.

    Jo Staffelbach Heinz

    • Jo Staffelbach Heinz founded INTERIOR SPACES, Interior Space Planners Design Consultants, Inc. in Topeka, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri in 1979. She served as founder and president, merging with Andre´ Staffelbach Designs and Associates Inc. in 1985, she thenserved as COO and named president in 1993. Heinz served as principal and workplace leader for Staffelbach Inc. until her departure in 2021 founding J|a Kreativ LLC where she remains parther. She is a member of the IIDA College of Fellows, and has served as president of the Dallas Architecture Forum and president of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).

    Jean Marie Hansen

    • Jean Marie Hansen’s career spanned 44 years, and is an IIDA charter member, Northern California chapter. She has served as chapter president, board member, and chaired many committees, and was presented with the chapter Leadership Award of Excellence in 2004 for her involvement in advancement, education, and leadership in sustainability, and named to the IIDA College of Fellows in 2008. She worked at firms like Ratcliff Architects, Anshen + Allen, Chong Partners, and most recently HDR, specializing in healthcare planning and sustainable design. Hansen has advised on, spoked about, and authored articles on her expertise in sustainable design, and continues to mentor young designers into her retirement.

    Aleta Greenspan

    • Aleta Greenspan, retired in 2014, had a 26-year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and 25 years with the USACE Professional Development Program. Over the course of her career, Greenspan developed guidance for interior design submission standards for military and civil works construction projects, and served as an instructor for the U.S. Army’s AR-405-70 Space Utilization Regulation training. As an IIDA-Alabama chapter member, she was named to the IIDA College of Fellows in 1995, and has received awards for her Civil Service and been honored for her work throughout her career. Greenspan has also been an IDCEC Course Reviewer since 2000.

    • Cindy Bach is an interior designer and fiber artist, pursing many accredations over her career including LEED-AP, Evidence Based Design, and NCIDQ, and became one of the first certified interior designers in the state of Minnesota in 1987. She joined IBD, and served in leadership roles before and after its evolution into IIDA. She began her career at the infancy of contract design, and has focused on healthcare environment both as a designer and project manager, working for several years as a certified healthcare designer for Herman Miller. Her long commitment to the commercial design field coupled with transitioning to new roles and becoming trained by adding new licenses has been a driving interest of hers.

    • Anita Barnett has been committed to the stewardship of the interior design profession throughout her career in her own design practice as well as in leadership in associations supporting the profession. She joined IBD, and served in several leadership roles including the board of directors for what would become the IIDA Indiana Chapter. She was named to the IIDA College of Fellows in 1999, served on the International Board of Directors, awarded the IIDA Distinguished Merit Award in 2000 and the Minnesota Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Barnett served as a partner at CSO, HGA, Gensler, and Perkins + Will. She has also served as an advisor to universities, a juror for IIDA and AIA design competitions, and has been a site visitor for CIDA since 2012.

    • Marla Bommarito-Crouch has been CEO and owner of the award-winning Bommarito Group for over 35 years. She has been an award winning interior designer in Central Texas for over 30 years, and has been recognized for her professional achievements by IIDA, ASID, AIA and more. She is a member of the IIDA College of Fellows, and was among the first to be inducted into the Design Hall of Fame at the University of Texas at Austin, where she has served as an instructor and guest lecturer. She actively seeks ways to improve the design process for the firm to keep Bommarito Group at the top of their game. Bommarito-Crouch strives for excellence always and is committed to elevating good design into great design.

    • Mari Lou Diamond has been a professional interior designer for over 40 years and as a student and graduate of the University of Oregon school of Architecture, where she was instrumental in starting a student chapter of IBD. She was also a founding member of the Oregon Professional Chapter of IBD, which is now the IIDA Oregon Chapter, and served in many leadership roles over her tenure beginning as the Vice President of the Oregon Chapter of IBD, and continued on serving as board member, vice president again, fundraising work, and being awarded the IBD Certificate of Appreciation for Chapter Service.

    • Pamela Light started her journey in Interior design in 1973. She worked in the field for over 46 years in dealer and design sales in Houston, to HOK architect in San Francisco. She started the IA office in Los Angeles in 1987, worked with LPA Design Studios and Whistler Patria before returning to HOK in Los Angeles, where she worked for 25 years until her retirement in 2020. Light is passionate about what design can do for not only her clients but the world. She spearheaded a document through HOK and United Way on Trauma Informed Design and is currently working on three homeless projects in LA.

    Eva Maddox

    • Eva Maddox, IIDA, started her design career in Chicago in 1971 with RMM Designs, one of the first commercial interior design firms, and experienced the boom of architectural interior design and space planning. In 1975 she started her own firm called Eva Maddox Associates where she built a terrific team and had the opportunity to mentor many young IIDA designers and help them build their careers. In 2001, her firm was acquired by Perkins&Will where she had the opportunity to expand her design background into building branded environments which helped her expand her vision for the future of the interior design practice.

    • Deberra O'Brien joined IBD in 1974, is Legacy Member of IIDA. She served as VP and Board Member of the San Francisco Chapter, Board-Member-at-Large, SoCal, LA, and founding member of San Diego and Honolulu City Centers/Chapters. An early advocate for interior design licensure, she became NCIDQ and CCIDC certified in 1992. O'Brien lectured to architectural and interior design professionals on techniques and business of interior design. As Principal of O’Brien Associates Interior Planning & Design, Inc., she planned and designed several million-square-feet of award-winning and "themed" environments for corporate, civil, and healthcare facilities in California, Hawaii, and Japan during a 48-year career. She served as Director of Interior Design for KMD Architects in San Francisco and Austin/Hansen/O’Brien, Inc. in San Diego, and Facilities Designer for The St. Francis Medical Center in Honolulu.

    • Mariann Padgett has been a member of IIDA from its inception. She was part of the Council of Federal Interior Designers as IIDA was developing. She received her professional membership in October of 2000. For 36 years, she has practiced interior design for the federal government until her retirement in December of 2022. She served as President of the IIDA Rocky Mountain Chapter, City Center Co-Director, and Government Forum Advisor on the International Board of Directors for IIDA. Padgett has dedicated her career to developing design standards for many facility types and growing the interior design community in Colorado Springs.

    • Rayne Sherman has been a member of IBD/IIDA for five decades, first elected to membership of IBD in 1974, becoming a fellow in 1993, and a founder and charter member of IIDA since 1995. He is a nationally recognized authority in design, space planning and construction for commercial, industrial, financial, and healthcare projects. With 40 years of experience, Sherman has provided facilities planning, interior and graphic design services to a wide variety of clients. He taught commercial interior design, as an adjunct professor, at California State University Long Beach and has been an advisor to several California interior design education programs over the years. Rayne works with project managers and staff to set strategic goals for each project and is responsible for overall project direction and delivery.

    • Igor Siddiqui, IIDA, ASID, is the associate professor and director of the interior design program at The University of Texas at Austin, where he has served as a full-time School of Architecture faculty member since 2009. Siddiqui’s academic work—including teaching, research, and creative scholarship—contributes to the field of interiors as a body of theoretical and applied knowledge with a critical role in contemporary culture. His work has been published, exhibited, and presented internationally at a range of professional, cultural, and popular venues. He studied architecture at Yale and Tulane and is a registered architect in New York and Texas.

    • Olivier holds a Ph.D. in architecture from McGill University and currently works as an assistant professor at the Arizona State University. He has held academic positions at the School of Architecture and the Department of Art History in Université Laval, Québec, QC, and Department of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. While he currently keeps an installation-based practice, Olivier has practiced as a professional architect in various firms across the US and Canada including Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Quebec. His research focuses on self-identifications, community identifications, and their relation to the design and experience of the built environment, on queer and feminist approaches to design education, and on alternative practices of design.

    • Prior to her appointment to Dean of the College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Katherine Ankerson was professor and head of the Department of Interior Architecture and Product Design at Kansas State University and had served as professor and associate dean in the UNL architecture college. She has held academic positions at Radford University and Washington State University after spending many years as a practicing architect and designer. Ankerson received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture from Washington State, in addition to a master’s degree in architecture. A strong proponent of design education, Ankerson advocates for interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary engagement, the value of design and making, and embracing new technologies in addition to strengthening traditional design tools.

    • Rep. Kraft-Tharp previously taught at Metro State and Regis University and has served and currently serves on the board of directors of various local and national nonprofit organizations, dedicating her career to at-risk children and their families. As the Colorado State Representative for District 29 (Arvada and Westminster), Rep. Kraft-Tharp served as the Chair of the Business Affairs and Labor Committee. She is currently running for Jefferson County Commissioner. Rep. Kraft-Tharp worked with IIDA and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) to advance interior design practice with the passage of Colorado HB1165, which went into effect on September 14, 2020. This critical piece of legislation acknowledges the impact of interior designers on life safety in the interior built environment.

    • Liz Ogbu is founder and principal of Studio O, a design firm that works at the intersection of racial and spatial justice. She is an expert on social, sustainable, and spatial innovation in challenged urban environments globally. From designing shelters for immigrant day laborers in the United States to a water and health social enterprise for low-income Kenyans, Ogbu has a long history of working with communities in need to leverage design to address issues of power and privilege and catalyze deep social impact.

    • Throughout her nearly three decades with Perkins&Will, Director of Global Diversity and Principal, Gabrielle Bullock, IIDA, FAIA, NOMAC, has led the team and the firm’s clients to massive success at the intersections of architecture and social justice. Bullock was the first African American and first woman to rise to the position of managing director at the Perkins&Will Los Angeles office and is a leader across a number of high-profile and award-winning projects, cultivating a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and equity at her firm and throughout the industry. Bullock is a past president of the IIDA International Board and has say on several industry boards. She is known throughout the field as a leader, changemaker, activist, and visionary.

    • Richard Saul Wurman’s esteemed professional contributions span decades. Among his many accomplishments: he created and ran the TED conference in 1984 until 2003, and the TEDMED conference from 1995 through 2010. He has chaired a series of other conferences including the International Design Conference in Aspen, California 101, and WWW. Wurman has also written nearly ninety books on architecture, cartography, design, sports, and medicine. He has the gold medal from AIGA, is a Fellow of AIA, a member of Alliance Graphique International, is recognized in the Art Director’s Hall of Fame, and has been honored with the Trinity College Dublin Annual Medal in Discourse. He has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum, a Guggenheim, Graham Fellowships, the Ladislav Sutnar Prize, and Boston Science Museum’s 50th Annual Bradford Washburn Award.
